Street Style, Iowa City Edition

In Iowa City, on the sidewalks of Iowa City, a distinct, layered street style is quietly taking shape. It captures something larger: campus-town street style.
"It comes down to attention," says Vera Ellsworth, a stylist who has watched the change from the front row. It is a wardrobe built to be worn, layered and lived in through a long Iowa year.
Where it comes from
Look closely and the momentum is unmistakable. Nothing here shouts. The confidence is in the cut, the cloth and the fit. What is taking shape between Iowa City and the Amana Colonies would have seemed improbable not long ago.
"The talent was always here. What changed is that it decided to stay," said Elias Renner, a creative director working near the Amana Colonies.
The look
None of this happened overnight. It is the product of a hundred small decisions — about quality, about place, about the kind of life worth building in Iowa. What began as a niche is becoming, quietly, a defining feature of the state.
The chapter is still being written. On the evidence so far, Iowa City has found something worth keeping.
