Tax Season, Reinvented for a Digital Iowa

Something is shifting in Council Bluffs. Tax season used to mean paper. For a new class of Iowa firms, it means software and sleep. At its core: the digital reinvention of the busy season.
"We are not trying to imitate the coasts," says Ingrid Bishara, a chief investment officer who has spent years on it. Margins here are earned slowly, through relationships that outlast any single quarter.
Why here, why now
Look closely and the momentum is unmistakable. What makes it work is proximity: capital, talent and clients sit within a few square miles. What is taking shape between Council Bluffs and Grinnell would have seemed improbable not long ago.
"The talent was always here. What changed is that it decided to stay," said Camille Vance, a analyst working near Grinnell.
The people in the room
None of this happened overnight. It is the product of a hundred small decisions — about quality, about place, about the kind of life worth building in Iowa. What began as a niche is becoming, quietly, a defining feature of the state.
For now, it remains an open, evolving story. But if the last few years are any guide, Council Bluffs is only getting started.
